What Color Bra Am I Wearing?
72
I thought that might get some attention...
There's this new "thing" going on with Facebook. Women are supposed to simply put the color of the bra they're wearing next to their "Status" with no other explanation.
This is supposed to make men in particular ask, "Why are all these women putting a color next to their status?" And this in turn will theoretically raise awareness about breast cancer.
I wasn't asked my opinion on this - but here it is anyway and I'm going to be blunt. Forewarned.
1. Please, would someone tell me what non-brain dead adult male or female is UN aware of breast cancer?
2. I think using titillating types of "tricks" cheapens the whole idea that women get breast cancer and many women die from it and have died from it. I don't like that whole guess-what-that-color-in-my status-is thing. It's "sexy" and to me - a tad unseemly. I take breast cancer very, very seriously. My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer and by God's grace survived. My sister-in-law's mother died a slow death from breast cancer and it is in her family. She has to go through so much with her annual check up. My heart goes out to her! It's no "sexy" thing to be sure. It's life or death!
3. I don't trust any organization that attempts to raise awareness for breast cancer (unfortunately) any longer. And I'll tell you why.
One of the largest and most known cancer awareness groups - the Susan G. Komen "Walk for Life" events etc. gives 23% of the money they raise to Planned Parenthood.

Imagine the IRONY of this because there is a direct link between women who have abortions and an increased risk of those women getting breast cancer!! WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?!
Were you aware that there is a distinct link between women who have had an abortion and their increased risk of having a miscarriage when and if they ever do choose to have a baby? Did you also know that the risk continues in relation to birth weight and giving birth to preemies?
I am not a believer in demonizing a woman who chooses to have an abortion. If I could, I would pray that all abortions ceased. However, if a woman chooses this - that decision is something she has to answer to God for.
I do however become furious when organizations hide where their money is really going and when organizations like Planned Parenthood lie about the risks and many other things associated with a woman who chooses abortion over giving birth.
So I'm going to be a sour puss - I even mentioned why I won't participate on my Facebook status - and why I will not reveal the color of the bra that I'm wearing in my status. Call me modest, call me a jerk, I don't care quite frankly. But I will NEVER again, knowingly give any money to any organization that will fund slaughtering the unborn. I.E. - give some of their money to Planned Parenthood. I am disgusted that I bought some of that pink garbage - I even have a "pink" toothbrush! Now that I know some of that money went to dismembering a pre-born baby, I wish I could find a way to dump all of those things I bought in the lap of the Komen foundation and demand my money back! No more "buy pink" for me! I hope you'll join me in boycotting these organizations as well - who knows what other "cancer awareness" groups are secretly giving money to fund abortions?

my little sister talked me into a F.B. account, but there is such a thing as too much information.
Excellent hub, CJ. I learned about the Susan Komen foundation's use of funds a while ago. A friend of mine told me that a very small percentage of the money collected goes to research. As far as Facebook is concerned, I went on it the other day to check my hub ( I post it there) and had no idea what all those colors meant. Idiotic, juvenile and tasteless, is all I can say. Having just gone through a mammogram and ultrasound, Friday, I am not amused.
Wow,.. I had no idea some of that money went to planned parenthood,.. but yet Im not surprised either. i had ran across a few so called organizations that took collections for our troops families for christmas however when it came to dispersing some of it they said, we dont know where the stuff went, can't you help them out,..Grrr. same thing just different cause and now the people who suffer these horrable diseases wonder why there isnt more people giving money to the funding,..Dam shame all the way around.
I am cris chasse on Face Book and I love it! Thank you so much for the donation to Dana Farber! And yes the bra headline did catch my attention.
Ouch, but well said
