Washington Thinks We're Clueless

Washington thinks We the People don’t have a clue.

March 4, 2011

Liberals are thrilled we don’t have a clue and that’s why they went ahead and raised the deficit by triple trillions. Republican House Speaker John Boehner said we’re clueless because the spending is so out of control no one knows just exactly where the money goes (in detail) any more. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703752404576178910828355914.html?KEYWORDS=Boehner+Promises+Entitlement+Review

Recently I wrote about the government website, energy.gov

http://hubpages.com/hub/Dumb-and-Dumber-verses-Global-Warming

I couldn’t tell you a list of all the federal programs just for “green” type of programs because I don’t have months to spend pouring over the pages and pages and links within those pages of just the list of programs federal tax dollars are poured into. And I’m just talking programs for “global warming initiatives”. We’re all paying to fund programs based on junk science at best, a malicious world-wide con-game at worst, because…why? Why isn’t this money at least frozen until we can better understand the actual science of this global warming/cooling/climate changing thing liberals swear is going to destroy the planet? Personally, I say gut it. No more money. Done. Prove that it’s needed again and then raise the money yourself. George Soros has big pockets…

I am not a totally draconian federal tax cut kinda gal. There are some federal programs that in my opinion serve the country at large.

Like border patrol for instance. Bless the Obama administration’s heart, they sure know when to tighten their belts when it comes to federal dollars, don’t they? Under the Obama administration things have deteriorated worse than ever on our borders, but the President turns a blind eye. Civil war is literaly being waged in Mexico near, on and across our borders but the Obama administration does nothing. Oh yes, that’s right, they put up signs for us to the tune of millions, and spent millions on a "virtual fence" that isn't going to be completed. How is that working for us?

Our military should still receive federal tax dollars. This is not to say there isn't room to clear out military programs/projects etc. that are useless and wasteful. Any federal government program embodies fraud, waste and abuse, but overall, our tax dollars need to go towards protecting our country both here and abroad via our military.

Our roads across the nation need to be maintained. All Americans benefit from our nation-wide highway system. I can get fruit (for example) in frigid Michigan because of our truckers who use those interstate highways and I’m grateful for that. People in Florida can get Kellogg’s cereal, based in Battle Creek, Michigan because of our excellent highway system.

There are a few more, and I literally mean, only a few more, federally funded programs that need to continue to receive federal money. The rest need to be cut, now . They need to be cut now and if you and I don’t do something about it, these federally funded politically left organizations will continue to receive more and more of your money each year because they don’t want to see a dollar cut from their over bloated entitlement programs.

Planned Parenthood needs to be cut off immediately from tax payer dollars. Period.

Why did ACORN, even before the revealing videos, receive federal money after it was found they practiced fraudulent voter registration?

How many more pet programs like this exist on your tax dollars?

More examples: Why do Universities like Northwestern University of Chicago receive any tax dollars when they have classes that have live sex show?

I am not talking about a Broadway Show field trip the Professor took his students on. I am talking about Professor Bailey, “…following a human sexuality class last week…invited students to stay for an extracurricular demonstration that he warned would be explicit and graphic…about 100 stayed to watch a sexual act involving a woman, a man and an electric-powered device.”

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703752404576178791072808496.html?KEYWORDS=Northwestern+University

I am not making this up. Although I did place a call into the University asking them to answer two questions: was this article in The Wall Street Journal true, and does the school receive any federal tax payers money at all, I’m not holding my breath for a call-back. If however the answer is no to both of those questions, I will update.

It seems they were for the program before they were against it.

The university put out a statement about this event, “The University supports the efforts of its faculty to further this advancement of knowledge.”

Then they apparently backed off of that statement when they were hammered for making such an idiotic statement.

This is what I have to say to that. If “The University” has no clue as to why a live sexual demonstration using an “electric-powered device” isn’t in any way something that advances knowledge, I say, pull their federal tax dollars, now . Why on earth is a single penny of my money or anyone’s money being used to further insanity? Cut federal funding for colleges and universities that engage in un- educational voodoo like this, now !

Another perfect example is Public Broadcasting. As the WSJ put it “If these outfits can afford to pay lavish salaries to their heads, the don’t need taxpayer help.” Your tax dollars are also going to help NPR, PBS and other such liberal bastions of your tax dollars to lobby Washington. Oh yes they are. It’s on your dime that these reps are heading to Washington to “demand” more money.

According to the WSJ, they’re compensating Ms. Kerger, President of PBS, $632,233 in annually and get this – “…The executives at the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) which distributes the taxpayer money allocated for public broadcasting to other stations, are also generously compensated…”

So follow me here, there are heads that head the way to “distribute” your tax dollars, and these guys and gals seem to have a pretty hefty paycheck themselves.

The President and CEO of this arm of PBS alone received $298,884 and another $70,630 in other annual compensation from the organization and related organizations. Still according to the WSJ article, the President of NPR received more than $1.2 million. Where do I apply for this fat-cat job?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703559604576176663789314074.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_LEADTop

Have tax dollars will (shamelessly) waste it!

Moveon.org is “demanding” that Congress continue funding PBS and NPR and other liberal “educational” channels as this is written. Are you going to let this happen?

The pleas for more money and their lobbying knows no end. All subsidized by your tax dollars folks.

End this wasteful spending now!

This isn’t even scratching the surface. We are clueless because there probably isn’t anyone on the planet who could possibly know in detail where all our federal tax dollars go! So I say, wipe the slate clean and only put back what matters. The rest, cut it off at the knees.

I cannot believe the Republicans want to cut billions to pass two budgets and the Democrats want to cut less when these cuts combined don’t touch the problem. The Democrats never passed a budget for last year, surprise!

There is hope however.

The Republicans are almost on the right track. Keep them on the right track. Don’t let them increase the debt limit. Just CUT SPENDING. What about this is difficult to understand? Get me in there, I could SO cut spending and not bat an eye and I bet I wouldn’t have to raise the debt limit to balance the budget!

Hold the Republican’s feet to the fire! Federal government is absolutely out of control, and another one of the big ticket items is this ginormous Obama care bill. Do not rest. Do not stop until we bring some sense back into our government and those we elect to represent us!

Remember 2012!

I think someone is clueless alright! If your memory goes back to when President Clinton was in office, we had a SURPLUS! And still had all those useless programs you mentioned above. Stop watching FOX NEWS! and develop some original thoughts of your own instead of just going down the GOP talking points list!

After watching Barack Obama and make decision after decision that damages our country and economy, I can no longer believe that it's accidental or ignorant. He said he was going to fundamentally change America, and that's just what he is doing.

Let me give you a few facts phillip since you failed to provide any basis for your claims. The Clinton "surplus" was a myth. It was smoke and mirrors. There never was a surplus. This article I'm going to give the link to while not a primary source, includes primary sources to back the facts. There never was a Clinton surplus. http://www.craigsteiner.us/articles/16

If you don't know about Phil Gramm, see my HUB "Tiny asks a question about hard times." Political fun there. I enjoyed this very much. You have this laid out beautifully and it is easy to understand. Keep up the great HUBS. Up one and Useful. Hey! I'm now your fan! RJ

I'm afraid you're right WIll. He said he'd make the price of gas go up, he did. Look at it now! The left was screaming during the Bush administration that it was Bush's fault when it only went up in 2008 a fraction of what it has gone up now, plus it went up in much less time! Where's all the "It's Obama's fault" stories on the main stream media news? Bush administration, 64 stories in a two week time period. Obama admin - with the price jumping up horribly? 21.

When Obama took office in 2009, we were $9 trillion in debt. That was the total debt accumulated since George Washington took office. Now just two years later, we are at $14 trillion and counting!

At that rate, by the time he has served 4 full years, we will have doubled the $9 trillion debt when he took office to $18 trillion, which means that Barack Obama will have spent more in just four years than all previous presidents combined.

BTW, the economy under Clinton was the work of the Republican Congress which won in 1994 and then balanced the budget, an act that Clinton signed kicking and screaming.

I couldn't have said it better myself Will. I have never ever written anywhere that I "only" watch Fox News. I quote here from The Wall Street Journal for crying out loud. But liberals tend to throw out that straw man - Stop watching Fox news - as if there's something wrong with using Fox for one source (of many) my information. There are none so blind...

Thanks Will for that important, true and extremely relevant comment!

This is a link from CNN, about the budget surplus in the year 2000 of 230 billion dollars. Sorry but it's just a fact. I am sorry for throwing out my knee jerk reaction to your hub, sometimes I can run a little hot and FOX news is an easy target. One of the biggest reasons we are having such a crises now is the mass exodus of manufactoring jobs and Bush tax cuts, 10 years of that is enough, it doesn't create jobs, and that's another fun little fact.

An excellent hub. And to Phillip Goodson: The reason for the budget surplus during the Clinton Era was using social security revenue to shore up the general treasury. Don't you find it odd that while he promoted a "budget surplus" we increased the deficit? To put it in simple terms, they took out a loan and then called the loan income!

The wastefull spending in this country is out of control; a person would have to be blind not to see it. We need to stop the government funding of all organizations outside of the government. Ditto for federal subsidies to businesses. If the business/organization can't make it on its own, then it should wither and die.

Phillip, I'm so sorry. You aren't reading properly. You are totally misunderstanding what a debt reduction is and what a surplus is. I use a quote from YOUR article:

'This represents the largest one-year debt reduction in the history of the United States," Clinton said Wednesday morning. 'Like our American athletes in Sydney, we've been breaking records and have come a long way.'"

There never was a SURPLUS. A debt reduction is not the same as having a SURPLUS. A surplus means EXTRA MONEY. At least CNN was semi-honest in the title of the article. This article - the one you linked to supports EXACTLY what the article I gave the link to says. CLINTON SAID - not - "These are the numbers and the treasury department says..." CNN merely quotes the great Liar in Chief.

BTW - CNN - your link -- used NO PRIMARY SOURCES. They merely quoted what Bill Clinton said. A known and proven liar. The article I linked to has the GOVERNMENT TREASURY link - a PRIMARY SOURCE. A debt reduction is not the same thing as a surplus! The surplus was merely a PREDICTION. You didn't read the article I linked to, did you? Read it thoroughly, go to the Treasury link - look at the numbers for each year in question. The numbers don't lie. Bill Clinton lies. We all know that. The rest -- in the article you linked to -- merely PROJECTS these other things like a surplus - but IT NEVER HAPPENED. It was all smoke and mirrors. When the adults got in and took over, it was found out there never was a surplus, that was a PREDICTION by Clinton and touted as a current situation when Gore campaigned but in reality, it never happened. It was a debt reduction without a DEFICIT reduction therefore there couldn't have been a surplus.

I am using the caps not to "yell" but for emphasis BTW.

Looking from outside the US at the whole mess, i would say you nailed it to the point. Yes - apparently administrations have no clue.

May i comment: Shouldn´t there first be a strategic economic policy, before talking about cuts in spending or increasing tax revenues or blocking the dept limit?.

The real issue is the lack of firm political long term strategy, it is the "laissez faire" attitude. Organizing spending and tax revenues is only craftsmanship then.

The US had and has lots of "laissez faire" kings from way back in the seventies. Mr. O. is just one of them.

The topic is very serious.

Chris - I will admit, you're probably right, but I'm just so MAD at those bunch of lug heads that I feel we should wipe the slate clean and start over as I have blogged above. However, your way - having a strategic economic policy -- is probably the most prudent way. Do what you propose first, THEN cut it to the bone. Thanks so much for adding intellect and well-thought out, rational commentary. Well done!

There isn't enough common sense in Washington to fill a thimble. Instead of all the garbage spending like on Planned Parenthood and PBS and countless other idiocies I think Social Security and Medicare are going to take the biggest hits. We have no leadership and without that we are doomed.

I agree with you, Carol. The point that is being missed here is "priority". We have priority needs in this country, especially at this time. They begin with things like paying down our debt load, reducing spending, supporting programs like Social Security and Medicare which the American public has contributed to all their working lives. Priority says that these programs and needs take precedence over anything else we desire to do but cannot afford in America at the present. The days of just continuing to spend and add more programs and grants are over. It is time that all these programs met the litmus test and if they cannot cut the mustard, they are out of here. We are butt-deep in environomental programs now because greed scientists are too afraid to speak their mind on the "pseudo-science" put forth by Al Gore and his group of greedy money-grubbing cronies. We have reached a time in America where revolution is once again the need. We don't need to fight in the streets, but we do need to change the direction that things have gone in for far too long now. America can no longer afford the things that are out there that we don't even know that we are paying for...how ridiculous can you get? When you don't know what your money is buying, it is time to quit buying. This is the best example I have seen of how we have allowed idiots to run our country. It's time for change, real common-sense, hard-working, honest as the day is long, change. We must have it! Thanks for a good article! WB

Phillip Goodson - Amazing that you want to cite CNN as a reliable source. Do this. Go to "The Bureau of Public Debt," which is a branch within the Treasury Department and do some research and then come back and tell us what you find to be the real truth. It's a myth and always will be.
