Time to Say Good Job Mr. President

It’s often called “The Golden Rule” but it’s actually God’s rules. Today, I’m picking, “Do unto others…” as that encompasses a whole boat-load of things.

I have not been a cheerleader for the President, I will confess. But I will concede to something publicly when he has done something with class and in this case, surprisingly, with not only class, but humbleness as well.

Yesterday, there were videos of Mr. Obama at a fundraiser – I’m not exactly sure where this was but I believe it was for Barbara Boxer’s, California campaign. Why he was there is irrelevant to my point. The President was speaking when someone began to rudely heckle him. The person apparently yelled something out regarding the “Don’t ask don’t tell” military policy and wanting the President to do something about it.

To Mr. Obama’s credit, I saw two things. One was a humbled man. He seemed to be speaking with dignity and dare I say, meekness and I mean this in a Biblical sense. Not with respect to someone who is weakened, but someone who realizes their abilities when compared to the Creator of the universe. Not that he in any way alluded to this, but it was a pleasant countenance, a dignified and Presidential posture. He wasn’t looking down his nose in an elitist manner, as he is often prone to do.

Then when this person heckled him, he used humor. Instead of becoming haughty, or instead of losing his temper, he made some funny quips about the heckler and then apparently carried on with the rest of his speech.

He handled it very well, and I was proud of the President.

I think this era of no civility has gone way, way too far. I don’t care what your political beliefs, I don’t care what your cause. There is a time and a place to exercise your free speech rights and interrupting an invited guest speaker – be they President of the United States or paid orator or merely a guest, is rude, obnoxious and completely out of order.

If this person had a beef, they should have picketed outside the event. I know they wouldn’t have gotten the press they so craved for their cause. But that doesn’t make what they did right. They were very wrong and this trend needs to stop.

The fact is, people pay money to be at these engagements. In this case, I’m certain people paid a lot of money. What makes that cretin think his cause is more important than the cause those people paid money for? The fact is, it isn’t. Not given the context.

I don’t care if it’s a liberal who stops a conservative speaker or a conservative who stops a liberal speaker – it’s wrong to do it no matter what the cause or reason.

Wrong is wrong. That man was wrong to be so rude to the President as he spoke. It puts the person who is speaking in an unenviable position – they lose their train of thought, they have to decide whether or not to address the person who is out of order - and everyone else present is made to feel uncomfortable. They didn’t pay to hear this moron. They paid to hear the President, Mr. Obama. The heckler's “cause” does not in any way trump the wishes or desires of the people in that room. Collectively, they desired and paid for the opportunity to hear the President speak, not this jerk.

I am passionate—in fact—very passionate about a number of causes. There is a time and a place to give a platform for your free speech rights. When you are not the invited guest speaker, you leave your rights at the door with regard to taking the stage. This man took the stage away from President Obama and he had absolutely no right to. I will make it my personal goal to work against any causes that work this way as it shows a total disregard for anyone but themselves or their own personal agenda.

Mr. Obama did an excellent job of deflecting the interruption and yesterday, he made this U.S. citizen, proud. I must give credit where credit is due. I couldn’t help thinking as I watched him deftly dodge the rude interruption, that heckler should apply “Do unto other as you would have them do unto you” into his life. If everyone did this how much better would our world be?

cjv123,

I saw this incident myself and agree with your assessment. I think the President is finally realizing he is only a mere human and not God Allmighty. This was the cause of his humble appearance.

He has been shown by the disaster in the Gulf that the wavining of his hand and flapping his gums don't bring about solutions.

I missed his appearance and I have to say it's a relief to read your assessment. I also am surprised that he handled himself so well given his abysmal track record.

Thank you, Ma'am, for not only personally recognizing this incident, but for sharing it with your readers. I hope others who are not necessarily pro-Obama will begin seeking out and recognizing his positive actions alongside with what they believe to be his negative actions, and thus hopefully, coming to more complete, balanced and fair judgments of him.

We are all Americans, and the success of our country requires the success of our President, no matter what party he comes from. I want our country to succeed and grow, and I wanted it to succeed and grow just as much when Mr. Bush was our president, so I did not join in with the left-wing smear tactics of some of my fellow Democrats during his tenure, and instead sought out my own truths. Because of that, I was able to understand President Bush’s actions much better than if I relied on my party‘s account of them, solely. Even if I did not agree with most of Mr. Bush‘s actions, it did enable me to look to him as my leader and one who deserved my respect. Any leader of our country deserves that much, I believe.

You make some very good points GodsChild. But I do feel that I must follow the example of Jesus with the moneychangers when it comes to a President I am convinced - IF he remains on the path he is on - will do and has done already - great, great harm to this country. I need to sound the alarm in my own way. In my own small way - I'm turning over the tables and saying - YOU BROOD OF VIPERS. Because this is the difference:

Mr. Bush was lied about in the media and the irrational hatred of him by the left and the Democrats along with the media.

I'm telling the truth about Mr. Obama and his administration. And it's a truth that needs to be told.

But you have every right to feel the way you do and I'm glad you expressed your feelings here.

GodsChild2 24 months ago

Ma'am, with ALL DUE RESPECT, you are NOT "telling the truth about Mr. Obama.." I strongly urge you to recognize this.

GodsChild - you may see it as I am not telling the truth about Mr. Obama, but then you are either truly seeing it that way due to your own 1) admittance that you are a Democrat and 2) you voted for him and have come here to defend him. That's your prerogative. But with all due respect returned, you're wrong. I absolutely - positively am telling the truth about Mr. Obama. I've admitted any error you or others have pointed out on other Hubs when I have made an error- otherwise, I'm telling the truth about this man or I wouldn't write it.

GodsChild2 24 months ago

Ma'am, you just said it: ..."I absolutely - positively am telling the truth about Mr. Obama. I'VE ADMITTED ANY ERROR YOU OR OTHERS HAVE POINTED OUT ON OTHER HUBS WHEN I HAVE MADE AN ERROR..." I totally take this as meaning on one hand you are saying you tell the truth, but on the other hand you admit error when someone points it out. That in itself says you do not always tell the truth...if you DID, you wouldn't need to be corrected. Right? What am I getting wrong here? What if no one pointed out your errors? Would those errors remain "the truth?" This just doesn't make sense. I only urge you to check your facts prior to publishing and even back them up with sources, and if you are speaking directly from your opinions, be aware that your opinions are not necessarily the truth, and stop passing them off as such. Please.

GodsChild - following your logic, if I make a mistake I'm lying. That's ridiculous. I do not lie on these Hubs I do not lie when I write anything. I check my resources/sources to the best of my ability. But I am not perfect. I make mistakes. Does this mean in your life you have never made a mistake? You have never written something, anything you were mistaken about? You have never said anything you were mistaken about ever? If you answered "Yes, I've made a mistake and written down something that was incorrect." Then following your logic, you're a liar.

I do check my facts - most of the time my sources are primary sources.

But sometimes, I make mistakes. That doesn't by any stretch make me a liar. I even admit it when the mistakes I make are pointed out.

Now - you've crossed a line here a few times. And you've done it again. I've given you a forum to post very lengthy rants against me. I have been fair with you and patient. Now you are calling me a liar (you've called me crazy and other names here in this forum before) because I've made mistakes and admitted those mistakes?? Are you kidding me???

MOST of what I write here - is not mistaken -- it is mistake free - AND TRUE. I always tell the truth on these Hubs. I try to always, always tell the truth in my life no matter what it is I'm doing. I don't even do what others call "white lies." I am considered trustworthy, that's why I work for two very respectable Christian organizations..

I'm especially careful when I write something. I check my sources - it is impossible to exhaustively check EVERY source. I make mistakes. I'm human. I said I was a Christian, not perfect.

If YOU are such a Christian, I suggest you ACT LIKE ONE and extend some grace. Ma'am. Unless you of course ARE perfect.

Now God bless and leave me in peace.

Washington is looking for the president? Wonder where he will be next week.We all can remember how Congress chastised the auto execs for using their private jets ( paid by private funds.)

The people would like the president doing the people's work on the peoples time. The election is over and Barak Obama is still campaigning, somebody tell him that he won.

cjv, it takes guts to say nice words about someone you use to criticize. And my respect to you for doing this. I also consider that we just should be honest and express it no matter what. It shows that you are not biassed.

Thank you ReuVera - I in fact plan to write another complimentary Hub about him probably tomorrow. I try to call it like it is - and I really do try to be fair, although to a liberal - they would never see me as being fair to Mr. Obama. Sadly - he was a man before his time and a man with very wrong philosophies for the United States.

Thanks so much Reu for stopping by and leaving your comments. They are much appreciated.

Ok, seriously, who hijacked CJV's hub? Is it a Guest writer?

CJV, obviously I am kidding. In seriousness, I found it very refreshing to read what you wrote and gave it a big "rate up." Our current state of politics is a sad one in which our political leaders and members constantly berate each other. This effect trickles down to the population. I'm not saying a discussion can't have passion or even heated debate; however, we need to recognize the proper place and time for such things. Well done on the hub.

Obama on the campaign trail again.

President Obama and the Democrats are accusing the US Chamber of Commerce that they were accepting foreign donations to back Republican candidates in the coming up elections.

Well, what do you know, it was reported today 10/22/10 that the AFSCME unions will be spending $87.5 million in the final weeks of the campaign on Democrat candidates nationally. Who are the AFSCME?

AFSCME ARE THE UNION PUBLIC EMPLOYEES consisting of teachers, firemen, policemen and other public employees. Surely there must be many members who will vote for Republican candidates. President Obama and the Democrat controlled Congress used stimulus money to bail out union pension funds and saved public sector jobs with the taxpayer money. IS THIS A PAY BACK? You BETCHA

Vote on nov. 2nd to stop the fleecing of American taxpayers.
