The Worst Commander in Chief in History
78God Bless the USA: My Husband Mark (on the rt.) and son Alex (in the middle) honored at a Red Wings Game.
Our son had two weeks of R&R (the Army acronym for “Rest and Relaxation”) from Afghanistan. Thankfully – he considers our home in Lansing “home” so he told his new wife – if you stay with my mother and father in Lansing – I’ll go there for my R&R and then we all can be together.
So Kristen and our little granddaughter came to stay with us in November. We waited for our wonderful son to come home to us – to come home to his new wife and his little girl who is now almost nine months old. He left when she was less than a month old.
My son’s unit is the 4/23rd Infantry Battalion – Stryker Brigade, US Army. Alex has seen things no one should ever have to see. His life, and the life of the other soldiers in his unit are constantly on the line over there. They are boots on the ground, infantry, dodging bullets, bombs and living like animals. They sacrifice all for our country and as I’ve always said – for complete strangers. They’re not only willing to die for their loved ones and family – they are willing to die to maintain the rights and the liberty of complete strangers. It takes a very special kind of person to become a soldier.
Our daughter Allie works for the Tampa Bay Rays – and she was able to arrange (with her contacts in Detroit, Michigan) – to the surprise of both my husband and son – a wonderful tribute to them by the Detroit Red Wings. The video you see was taken by Allie. I can not watch it without crying, and I mean the tears streaming down my face crying.
It was a packed Red Wings stadium and they all got to their feet and cheered for my husband then an active duty Colonel in the Army recently back from a year in Iraq, my son a SPC in the Army home from Afghanistan for two weeks and another wonderful soldier.
You may have been listening to the news that the Stryker Brigade is going to very dangerous places lately. I can’t believe my son is in this unit – it’s so different when it’s your BABY – but he is. I won’t share the few things he told while home – I had to pray WHILE he relayed some of what he saw and was a part of. I wanted to run from the room screaming – but I listened and my heart went out to my son – a young man of 22 who has lost some good friends and has seen a glimpse of hell. He's also seen his share of pure evil.
My parallel concern is that my son and so many other heroes are risking so much for our country and all this President talks about and works on is a sweeping health care reform bill that the American people do not want!
This is an outrage that goes beyond anger. I have
to fight hating this President – the Commander-in-Chief who acts less like a
Commander-in-Chief than any other President in my life-time and probably in
history. I venture to say he will probably go down in history as being THE worst Commander in Chief the U.S. has ever had to date.
At a time when our country is at war – he never stops with his Obama care – something the American people have made so clear that the vast majority hates, didn’t ask for and definitely does not want.
I wish I could talk to him. If I could I would say: Your obsession Mr. President -- with something that is not wanted and is not nearly as important as our national security is mind boggling.
I would even understand if you had become obsessed with the economy. I could at
least understand the need to help all the unemployed hurting Americans. There
would be some comfort in knowing you care for a cause that is bigger and more
important than yourself.
Instead, you have spent a year touting this ridiculous socialist-like take-over of our country by attempting to introduce a sweeping health care bill. If you had taken one fraction of your time meeting with, planning and executing strategies to WIN the war on terror perhaps we wouldn’t be losing lives in Iraq and Afghanistan as we have. Did you even notice it has escalated? The death toll Mr. President. I’m talking about the deaths of young and not so young, heroic men and women. My impression is, even if you had noticed, you don’t care. But what would you know of such a thing? Heroism I refer to. I suppose you believe trying to quit smoking is heroic…
In one year of your Presidency Mr. Obama, you can take credit that 30% of all the 8 year Afghanistan war causalities occurred since you took office. That’s 30% of ALL CASUALITIES President Obama – on your stinking watch! Why President Obama, aren’t you spending much more of your time trying to DECREASE those numbers? How DO you sleep at night?
You are a national disgrace Mr. Obama, I am so very sorry to say. You make President Nixon look like an angel. Your narcissistic, ego-feeding attempt to make a program for some type of legacy you’ve dreamed up is despicable. Oh, did I mention it is something the American people by a vast majority do not want in any way shape or form?
My Son Alex told me he slept out on the dirt and sand for a month while they built a Forward Operating Base. My Son who takes a shower every day under normal conditions said, he finds sand and grit in places he didn’t think possible while in Afghanistan.
And he’s also told me he has watched the life leave the eyes of a dying soldier.
I pray every day that someone will not one day tell me they saw the same in my son’s eyes.
You have no clue President Obama what it is like for his wife to wait here in the United States, with a Commander in Chief who is incapable of doing anything other than feed his own ego. She waits and prays no one will come to the door to tell her that her husband has been killed.
You are incapable of actually being the Commander in Chief and taking charge of a situation that needs much of your attention! I do not understand why you are not relieved of your duties because you are an utter failure thus far.
I pray you will somehow, by some miracle, wake up and you will have a conscience and get about the things that are important, essential and need to be addressed in this country. The War on Terror would be just about number 1 and the hurting economy that is teetering on destruction – an economy you have made dramatically worse by tripling the national debt during your first year -- would be a close second.
Health care? While it is something that should be addressed, it could never be more important than those who have sacrificed all and who are prepared to sacrifice all to protect the very liberties and freedoms that made someone like you President of the United States. They - our military -- deserve so much more of your time and attention Mr. President. So much more!

I agree with you. And though I wish we could set Afghanistan and Iraq on a good course, I know it won't happen in the short time Obama has allowed. Moreso, Obama knows that. So our men and women are suffering and dying for no good reason. If he was an honest man, Obama would have said, I don't want us in those wars and we're pulling out immediately. At least that would have saved our troops.
I saw my parents cry many tears when my brother was in Vietnam twice and Desert Storm once. He came home wounded twice. The worry never ends when they are serving in a war.
You are very right about how the Afghan war should be Obama's absolute number one priority.
Our soldiers deserve our best....because they are our best.

Stryker teams are at the pointy end of combat operations...My prayers for him and his fellow strykers as they lay it on the line for all of us...
I saw micro-management of the war in Vietnam...a tactic that undermined the morale and efficiency of those in the trenches...the unbelievable directive from administration officials, completely unknowledgeable of hot, intense, close combat, that Miranda warnings must be given in situ is ridiculously and dangerously naive...Leave the tactics to the men in the field, let the administration consider strategy under advisement from our Joint Chiefs...I've seen this before and it makes me sick.

Sheila - I don't agree with you I believe going into both Iraq and Afghanistan were necessary. But I do thank you for commenting. We didn't start this war, the terrorists have. We can't just cut and run either and leave the Iraqi's and Afghans to the horror of the Taliban and Al Quaeda we can't just abandon them now. However, this President has only adopted the Bush administration's tactics - a good thing - but then he has fumbled what little he has done. And what he shows the world is - he doesn't give a hang about this war or our troops. This is horrible for the troop morale and worse for the safety of our own U.S. citizens here in America. He has emboldened the Terrorists. This President should be replaced by a special election for not holding up what he was sworn to do for this country.

cj, your family makes me proud to be american. given the youth and health back, i would gladly serve by your son's side and/or under your husbands command. my time to serve has gone, but i tried to get into desert storm and iraqi freedom. they said i was to old and busted up. hell i can still shoot.

I hope your son keeps safe over there. Thanks for sharing. Obama is a disgrace, and the media is even more disgraceful. If one person died in Iraq with Bush they were calling the war a lost cause. Now with Obama the news doesn't even cover the war on terror.

Thank you for sharing your pain. You are correct. President Obama does not see or does not care to see past his so called health care bill. We saw normally healthy teenage children die in Texas from the Swine flu. The doctors were not allowed to give them the medicine to save them without loosing their license to practice. Yet Obama's children got the vaccine, so did he and his wife. Obama's health care bill is geared to kill all that are not able to work and give the government money via income tax. He has a death wish and all our boys/girls fighting to preserve the rights of others are unimportant to him. I will pray not only for your son but all that are fighting for freedom of persecuted individuals, even if he might come home to find ours gone. God Bless you and your family.

i agree 100 percent with you your family has given alot to our country and polls and stats are showing that war vets are not finding jobs and are unemployed more than non vets im sure im not the only one who thinks this is a gross violation of our soldiers sacrifice we should be worried about jobs and the fact that obamas stimulus package failed i think any unemployment among our vets is unacceptable

They just passed a 1.7 billion dollar "jobs creation bill" which by any other name is a "stimulus" bull - I mean - bill --- and it's just a load of ca ca because the other so-called "stimulus" bills were a bust! But once he took office - there was no doubt about his agenda - and like you - I believe he's the very least a President who wishes to promote socialist ideology - the worst - he is actually a Socialist.

Sounds like your just as obsessed over this matter as a president is over healthcare. Not being rude I do understand where you are coming from but you are passionate about this matter because of your son, you are directly effected by war. Have you put yourself in the shoes of someone that couldn't afford healthcare and lost their child because of it or lost everything else because of the debt they incurred? Insurance companies are just as much to blame for our down falling economy as president'S are for war. Ever seen the movie John Q? That was a passionate parent as well. My uncles 10 yr old son needed his gallbladder out, (emergency surgery)he had no insurance, a 25,000 dollar bill bankrupted my uncle he lost his home, and two cars while people were saying bush was obsessed with war.
Also I believe the majority that supported putting Mr. Obama in office are still the majority supporting his health care plan, to say the majority of the nation does not want it I believe is false after all it is moving forward for a reason. Rich people are against it and that is all.
Wow - where to begin. Please link for me to four national polls that shows the majority of Americans want this bill that was passed. This bill - by the way-- that neither the President nor the Democrats who voted for it have ever even read.

Let's get to the topic of what the President SHOULD be doing. He is not only the President of ALL the people, his other official title is Commander in Chief, not Doctor in Chief, not Care-Taker of all who can not afford to pay their doctor's bills. He is NOT doing his job and that is to BE the Commander in Chief. So you're wrong. By his very title he should at least SHOW PUBLIC CONCERN for this war and our soldiers fighting it!

Your sad story about someone who can't pay for medical care is tragic. But I'm sorry - I have to ask, why didn't your Uncle have savings for just such an emergency? Why didn't your Uncle have insurance - you said his son's gallbladder surgery needed to be taken out by emergency surgery - so there were apparently no pre-existing conditions. He could have gotten insurance. Why do you believe that I or my husband or the guy down the street should pay your Uncle's medical bills? Why in the world do you believe that my husband's pay check should be siphoned off to pay for your Uncles's son's surgery? I'm not trying to be callous, but it's not the JOB of the American people in this country who work HARD for their hard earned money to pay for those less fortunate UNLESS THEY CHOOSE TO DO SO.
Your Uncle is a complete stranger to me. Instead - I prefer to give to the a local call for our community to give to a charity for a fallen female police officer. My husband and I gave money to that cause as well as the cans the church was asking the community to give to raise money for extended and special care for this woman who had a stroke. Why should the federal government and Mr. Obama TAKE our money so that we'll have less to give AS WE CHOOSE TO GIVE? I'm very sorry about your Uncle - I don't like to hear that anyone has suffered these kinds of things - but the Constitution was set up not for the government to take care of all the needy. Read it sometime. That's not what the Federal Government was designed to do. Find me where in the Constitution it tells us the Federal Government needs to provide every citizen with insurance or medical care?
My "obsession" isn't an "obsession" it's a logical observation about a President who isn't doing HIS JOB. Like it or not - he's not our Presidential Nurse in Chief or Nurse Maid in Chief. He's the Commander in Chief - and his leadership has been disgusting when it comes to the fact we are AT WAR - and he has showed ZERO leadership concerning this matter.
I'm not saying nothing should be done about health care or all Insurance companies are perfect. But the JOB of President Bush and President Obama is to PROTECT THIS COUNTRY when we are at war. They are the TOP man or woman of the military in that office. They are not the TOP DOCTOR.
What I am saying is - adults need to take on some personal responsibility. There's something called "catastrophic healthcare." I know about it because we got some for our daughter when her Michigan State University insurance ran out and her job's insurance wouldn't kick in for three months. We paid $500 for six months. If anything at all catastrophic happened to her - it was covered up to at least what your Uncle had to endure and beyond. He should have thought of that, scrimped and saved to buy it every six months - whatever it took to make sure he was covered for just such an emergency. It isn't right nor is it moral no less constitutional to force me or my husband or anyone else to have to pay for someone else to receive health care. That's not the way to fix what is wrong with our U.S. Health Care. I'm truly sorry for your Uncle's misfortune, but frankly - it's not up to you to force me to FIX his problem financially. This WILL be repealed and people with BRAINS will be elected to take care of those less fortunate regarding healthcare.

There isn't a SINGLE example of Socialized medicine anywhere in the world you can find that isn't bankrupting the country it's a part of. To avoid total financial collapse, these countries DENY CARE! If your Uncle's son was 68 - he probably would have been denied surgery or died waiting for a bed to HAVE the surgery as many have in England for example. This country cannot sustain the debt that will be tripled nationally - nor can it pay for everyone's health care. IT CAN'T BE DONE!

Many of your assumptions about me are very wrong and your assumptions of how I obtain my information are wrong and you are SO way off about why I dislike the way President Obama is conducting himself as President.
Let me set you straight about something - I was raised by a racist of a father. I grew up hating him because he was such a tyrant and such an ignorant racist who was abusive to my mother. I wanted to be the opposite of him - to include my leaving my Catholic faith as soon as I got married just out of college. I thought - if this is being a "Christian" I don't want any part of it. Yes he was Republican - but as I said, I did the opposite of my father because he was a racist, mean man. So my upbringing isn't as you imagined it to be. My mother and grandmother had to work themselves nearly to death and raised me. We scraped to get by and the moment it was legal, I worked at age 16 and held one, two three or more jobs to put myself through college.
I didn't have. But I didn't hold out my hand and ask strangers to give to me. I didn't FORCE anyone to give to me either. I wish to CHOOSE who it is I GIVE my money to. Check the "giving" for Republicans verses Democrats or Conservatives verses Liberals. Your buddies give FAR less than those you make wrong assumptions about. My husband and I both give generously to not only charities directly out of his paycheck, but we give above and beyond that when we feel we should to those who need it. That's the way it SHOULD be. We should give WILLINGLY to the charities WE CHOOSE to give to or to the needy we CHOOSE to give to.

After a long search during my life - I found out that the Bible is the truth of God's Word and that Jesus Christ was the Savior and that when He died for our sins he died for what was inside our hearts. It has NOTHING to do with skin color or ethnicity. God looks at the heart, not skin. It's a senseless way to judge someone. Interesting - my response to philosostopher was met with the sound of crickets. He makes his assertions, no links to back himself up. He plays the race card, and is astounded I would deem to think our Congressmen and women and Senators didn't read the health care bill. So astounded, the fact that I would say such a thing discredited anything else I'd have to write in his opinion. I show him PROOF that Nancy Pelosi herself said she didn't read the health care bill - and still nothing. This is the problem with liberals - when they are shown the truth, backed with facts, they have to run. Bless their deceived hearts.

I just happen to see that this health care reform will help more than it will hurt. If you were a Christian and studied the Bible you would know that the individual must take personal responsibility for their actions and for that matter - inactions. If I DIDN'T give to the poor, or needy - if I don't give to "the least of these" as Jesus pointed out - then I would stand before Him someday judged. And Jesus wouldn't be pleased. Trust me - if Christians don't give of what they have, especially their abundance - which is God-given in the first place - then they're not acting like a good Christian.
I have an INDIVIDUAL responsibility to give of what I have and take a portion and give to those less fortunate. Until this health care bill, I would have had MORE to give to the poor, now I'm going to have to save far more because if this health care bill can't be reformed, the country will go bankrupt. I don't understand how you can't know this! It's simple math - this country's deficit has tripled in one year under the Obama administration and will grow much, much larger when this bill truly is enacted. Our country can NOT sustain just some of the things this health care bill will demand of our weak economy no less all of what is demanded. We are not producing enough tax dollars to cover 1/2 of what they are proposing. It was front page news of the Wall Street Journal - AT&T will have to come up with 1 billion dollars in order to comply with this health care bill. Now I know you hate these big bad companies. But do you hate the tens of thousands of people who work for AT&T? How do you think John Deere - 150 million, Caterpillar 100 million, 3M $85-90 million, AK Steel and Holdings 31 million are going to come up with this coin? Think they're going to go out and hire a whole bunch of people? Think their rates might go up? Think they might LAY OFF some people? So while you THINK that every single American is going to have this wonderful "free" health care - you need to think again. This country is going to tank and tank fast unless the federal bill is repealed and repealed fast and a bill with SANITY in it is started up from scratch.
Anywhere this type of health care has been implemented, it has failed. If you are such an independent thinker - aren't you aware that nowhere in the world has socialized medicine done anything other than fail and break the economy of the country that implements it? If it doesn't work anywhere else, what in the world makes you think this bill our lawmakers don't even know the CONTENTS OF is going to solve our health care problems?
Jesus never, ever, ever taught "Look to Caesar for your sustenance."He said "Render under to Caesar what is Caesar's." So He said we did have to obey the tax rules. However, Jesus taught that we are to look first to the Kingdom of God, then all of these things would be added to us. Jesus never taught us that any government was supposed to take care of us. Never. He in fact said, "The poor will always be with you..." It is impossible to make the world rich. It is impossible to give the world health care. He never told us to look to any government for anything quite frankly. But He did tell us that we are to take care of our neighbor, as individuals, as a family, in our local community. Never via the government.
The Health Care bill - as it is - isn't actually that much about health care anyway. Mark these words - all the poor will not have health care in a year or 10 or 20 with this health care bill. Those who rammed it through didn't even read it and/or comprehend the final bill that they signed. THE LAWMAKERS don't even know what is in it. And slowly, day by day, we're seeing that this bill was more about "distribution of wealth" than it was about helping the poor who don't have health care.
I'm not saying that there shouldn't be some sort of safety net for the TRULY poor - or those in need of health care - or that the Insurance companies are lovely. I hate insurance companies for the most part. But this particular health care bill is NOT going to fix anything. The EXACT model for it was implemented in Mass. under Governor Romney - a class A DOPE (lest you think I'm a die-in-the-wool Republican - I'm not. I don't vote straight party line.) Within months EVERYONE'S premiums went up 30-50% - health care is in a shambles there. Don't take my word for it - go research this for yourself. The Mass. health care reform was one of the models they used for this federal bill. It's a disaster.
I'm not saying that there isn't something that needs to be done about health care - the fact is - people use the emergency room as a doctor visit, then they don't pay and then all of us end up paying ultimately. It needs to be fixed - you and I do not disagree on that. What we totally disagree on is the actual bill that was recently signed.
Do you know that in Texas - in one county - a hospital was paying over $100 million dollars A YEAR in malpractice fees and then tort reform was instituted and when the fees came down to $3 million annually - the hospital was able to offer better care, they were able to do more research and overall the hospital is thriving and patients are receiving much better care.
Tort reform isn't anywhere in that bill. Why? Your buddy President Obama and all of his lawyer friends made a deal. No cap on how much money they can make off of malpractice suits. Do you HONESTLY believe that this bill was produced for altruistic reasons? If it was, why didn't the ones who designed it MAKE IT APPLY TO THEMSELVES. If it's SO wonderful and it's SUCH a fantastic way to have our health care in this country, why are THEY EXEMPT FROM IT?
The challenges to the constitution ALONE are going to make the lawyers rich beyond measure - and Obama's cronies are mostly lawyers. Why don't you have a beef with them too?
What about opening up the ability to buy insurance nation wide? Competition always ALWAYS brings the prices down for the consumer. Right now - we have to stay within the state - thus, less competition, thus the cost can remain uncompetitive/i.e. higher.
What about FIXING Medicare and Medicaid and truly go after those bilking the system to the tune of BILLIONS per year? There was a lot of lip service for that but where in the bill is there going to be an actual clean-up of corruption of these existing government programs that are going bankrupt?
There are a few good things in the bill - children can stay on parent's insurance until age 26 - can't be turned away with pre-existing conditions - but only a few. This bill was more about redistribution of the wealth than actually helping people with their health care. I guarantee - in 5 years there will still be millions that won't have health care and one of the reasons that will happen is there will be so many people out of work. When people are out of work, they're not going to be paying taxes. Without paying taxes, there can't be any money for this health care bill. RAISING taxes will CUT jobs and hurt small businesses - they won't hire. If businesses aren't thriving, that means they aren't hiring. If no one has a job, they're not shopping. Are you getting the trend here? Yet this bill won't even go into affect for 5-6 years YET our TAXES will be raised IN ADVANCE to pay for it! No benefits, higher taxes in an already crippled economy, with a massive unsustainable national debt that will in the least quadruple, and unemployment in the double digits and getting worse. How can this massive thing be paid for?
Lastly - I want you to get back to your uncle. You brought him up - and yet still refuse to answer my questions about him. To recap - his son needed emergency surgery - the medical bills bankrupted him. Yet you believe my husband should share in helping to bail out your uncle. My husband who was in Iraq for a year 2008-2009 should take some of the money he risked his butt for - literally - to help pay for your uncle's medical insurance. Why in the world do you believe something like that? Why don't you afford my husband the RIGHT to take his hard-earned money and give to the charity or person with a medical need (as we did with the female officer) of HIS choosing?

Sorry I have to agree with Philos. There is no draft anymore so anyone who is serving in the military now chose to do so by their own accord. President Obama did not start this war, just left to clean up the remaining mess left by bush, who is living the good life here in Dallas. Healthcare is important. Are you actually insinuating that your sons life is worth more than Philos uncles son simply by reason of you having money to buy health insurance. That is exactly the reason healthcare reform was needed. As for savings it has been impossible to save money in the past eight years of bushisim...I think the title of Worst Commander in chief has to be reserved for Bush. He stood on the destroyer and told Iraq to bring it...okay they brought it...we're still there. President Obama didn't make this mess. We have blamed him for everything except world hunger,guess that comes later. Even though all of the men and women serving should be honored ( I also have three nephews and two nieces serving in Iraq with spouses and small children waiting for them) I can't blame the President, it was a choice they made from their hearts.

Hi CJV, I only just found your hub in the "Related Hubs" area when reading another. The title caught my attention-and I'm so glad that it did!
Your writing is passionate, heartfelt and 100% true. I read through the comments as well-I've been arguing for 2 weeks about the health care bill in one of my hubs and finally told them both to not come back. It got to the point of me being accused of being a bad American and another questioning my "love of humanity" and questioning me as a nurse because I do not support that God-awful bill.
Anyway, thanks for this wonderful hub and an even bigger "thank you" to your son and husband. I'll be praying for your son and his/ the Stryker Brigade's safety. In the end, God will sort it all out-no more war, no more dying, no more inequities. Until then, we can only live as we're taught and offer up our prayers!

Your passionate and moving words rocked me to my core. You have a beautiful family and you are all American heroes in the truest sense of the word. I have never heard a President talk less about a war that we are engaged in than Obama. He is indifferent and detached and it has to strike at the hearts of every soldier out there putting their lives on the line. I will pray for the safe return of your son.
