It's About the Character Stupid or Boot Them ALL Out
74Cartoon From The Patriot Update
This is the time to take stock of those “On the Hill” and to determine – do we want a federal government for the people, of the people and by the people? Or do we want a federal government ruling the people?
This November may be one of the THE most important votes in our American history, and if you’re not a part of it, and you are reading this, old enough to vote, shame on you.
Before you vote though, instead of electing “pretty” or nicely packaged slick politicians (Mr. Obama immediately comes to mind...). Research the man or woman you’re voting for. Instead of listening to others, spouting the same old talking points you hear like-minded people spouting, educate yourself about just who it is you are pulling the lever for. Don’t vote straight down ANY party line any more. Take personal responsibility for the right that you possess when you go to the voting polls. Don’t elect an “American Idol” like the man we have in the office of the President of the United States. Vote as an educated, informed citizen.
It’s all about character.
The Crists, the Romney’s, the Spectors and the Blumenthals (to name just a few) should have been weeded out long before they made it as far as they have. There are always signs, and in this electronic age, it’s not difficult to dig up information about your chosen candidate.
If you think, for example that just because Florida’s Charlie Crist is a handsome guy, well-spoken, has done good things for Florida he still deserves your vote. Think again.
The biggest red flag should be what this man did recently in the Republican primary. Any candidate who says publicly to Chris Matthews (I watched him say this) that he will remain Republican and had no intention of changing parties – any candidate who sees defeat looming takes all that money given to him by people who wished to elect a Republican, then switches to Independent has a character problem. RED CHARACTER FLAG. In addition, they have that “me, me, me” problem as well. We already have a boat-load of lawmakers who are only out for themselves, do not add another to the list. Not one more soul! Vote the ones out who are there and put people in office who are PUBLIC SERVANTS. Not after political careers, power, money and ways to fill their coffers for reelection.
Arlen Specter is a good example of ridding ourselves of lawmakers who are only in office for their own personal desires. When he switched parties because he knew he couldn’t win on the Republican ticket – RED CHARACTER FLAG. As a commercial said during the primary for PA, Arlen Specter ran to save jobs, not the people of PA, his own.
Why the Republican party shouldn’t even CONSIDER Mitt Romney for a Presidential nominee is again – all about character. Aside from the fact he is a Mormon, and no matter how you feel about that, a Republican can not win without the majority of the Evangelical votes (he will never get that majority from Evangelicals no matter how many groups he purports to have given him support, it’s all smoke and mirrors), let’s look strictly at the character of the man.
When he ran for governor of Massachusetts, he ran on a pro-choice, pro-homosexual marriage ticket probably fully aware no conservative Republican could get elected governor (at that time) in Massachusetts. When he got into office he promptly signed bills that were strictly pro-life and pro-traditional marriage.
Now, I’m staunchly pro-life, totally utterly. I’m very much pro-traditional marriage. However, lying, is lying. I dare say Mr. Romney knew full well he was going to vote opposite of what he promised to do while stumping for the job of Massachusetts governor. This is the man’s record, which man would we as voters get in the White House? The man who lied to all the voters who voted him in trusting he would be pro-choice and pro-gay marriage? Or the guy who once he got into office played the old “find the ball under the cup” switcheroo? Who cares? What difference does it make? We don’t want “it’s all about me” people in office representing us. We don’t want liars in public office, we have enough of them there now! The Republican Party should at this point know better!
He’s a handsome guy, his wife and family look like a Norman Rockwell painting. So what? He signed into law for Massachusetts a health care bill that is almost identical to the Obamacare bill we just had rammed down our collective American throats. Now he’s going around trying to distance himself from that bill as if he had little to do with it. Or worse, as if it’s SO different than the federal bill. Liar, liar pants on fire!
What about Blumenthal? Why do these people get so far before we “discover” unsavory and sleazy things about their character? Let’s set aside – for now – the fact that this man repeatedly lied about his seeing action as a Marine in Vietnam. He claims he “misspoke” a few times. Yeah, if you believe that one I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d love to sell ya…
Today in the Wall Street Journal “The Other Blumenthal Scandal” there is a clear pattern of this man’s shady character and his obsession about “me, me, me.” Not only did he strong arm a woman and her business – attempting to make an example of her for what seems to be strictly personal political gain, but he also betrayed his constituents in another terrible way. Senator Dodd is in large part a party to this betrayal.
The over reach of his office was so glaring in the story about his pursuit against Computer’s Plus. But as the Cato Institute claims, by using “bullying, legally ill-founded ventures into litigation”, he also last year conveniently refused to investigate Countrywide Financial’s sweetheart loans to Senator Dodd. “He declared without any probe that ‘there’s no evidence of wrongdoing on [Mr. Dodd’s] part.’”
Without any probe he came to these conclusions? Oh really? Smacks of the Obama administration in their denunciation of the Arizona boarder control bill - even though they never read the bill!
But I digress...
Who do you think this so-call “tough prosecutor” had in mind when he made this announcement? His own future political aspirations or his constituents? The lawsuit he dogged Computer’s Plus into? The owner, Gina Kolb wasn’t just found “not guilty”, her record was wiped clean. But not before being dragged out of her own home in handcuffs, losing her home, her business and her life. She was awarded $18 million in a civil suit to boot. Read the editorial by WSJ, you simply won't believe what raw power unhindered can do to a private citizen.
Mr. Blumenthal’s Vietnam lies are only the tip of the iceberg and we all need to be much, much better about who we vote for ANY OFFICE even if it means not voting according to party line. Even if it means DON'T VOTE AT ALL. I no longer believe everyone of age MUST vote - if you're not going to do your research using PRIMARY sources as well and make a conscious, EDUCATED decision - I implore you - STAY THE HECK HOME and let the "adults" vote!
This November and the next Presidential election, become educated. Stop spouting the same old tired sound bites you’ve heard on T.V.. Trust NO ONE. Do your research. Educate yourselves. Just because you agree with someone, doesn’t mean they’re right.
I publicly vow today, if the Republican Party picks Mitt Romney as THE only other viable Presidential Candidate – in conscience, I cannot and will not vote for him. I cannot in conscience vote for Mr. Obama either. No one who loves this country should vote for either of them each with their own serious character problems.
I will either go to the polls and vote a write-in or I will not vote at all.
Start thinking now what you will do. Don’t wait until it’s too late and you have only two options. Let’s all vow to put a stop to the degradation we have voted into our federal government, here – now – starting with this coming November!

Well done! You are correct, now is the time to set our house in order and get viable candidates with character in office. So far, I don't see the Republicans doing a thing and that is very, very troubling.

INTRODUCTION
It may seem incongruous to see the names Hoover, Truman, Eisenhower, and Bono in a title, but let me tell you they had something in common. The first three were Presidents Of The United Stated of America, and the last served in The United States Congress. They all voiced opposition to illegal immigration.
HOOVER
In 1929, Hoover authorized the Mexican Repatriation program to combat rampant unemployment. This was an attempt to help in ending The Great Depression by deportation of Illegal immigrants. In 1929, Herbert Clark Hoover (August 10,1874-October 20,1964) the 31st President of The United States authorized the Mexican Repatriation program to combat rampant Mexican immigrants who were taking American jobs, and demanding publics services which were in short supply due to sagging government revenues. The program was largly a forced migration of approximately 500,000 Mexican illegals and also regretably Mexican Americans got caught up in the rush. FDR continued the program through 1939
This forced repatriation was based on the Quota Act of 1924 which limited immigration from over 1,000,000 people annually to under 100,000 people annually. This program was overseen by Secretary of Labor William Doak and nearly 20% of those deported were Mexicans. They were herded back over ihe US Mexico border. Some were put on trains and delivered deep into Mexico to discourage their return.
To this date there has been no apology of the US Federal Government for this action although some hispanic members of congress have introduced resolutions to extract such apologies. The State of California is the only state to apologize in 2005.
TRUMAN
At the end of World War II, Harry S. Truman (May 8,1884-December 26,1972) the 33rd President of the United States found himself in a similar situation by 1948. Returning veterans found their jobs unavailable due to high levels of illegal immigration. The US economy fell into a post-war recession. As a result of the unrest among returing unemployed veterans Truman deported over 2,000,000 illegal aliens during this time.
Truman did succesfully integrate the US military in this time frame so his immigration action was based on legal action and lacked any tinge of racism. Truman also fired General Douglas MacArthur when he was defied in his stance in the Korean conflict. MacArthur wanted to nuke the Chinese but Truman who had previousy nuked the Japanese held firm in his decision. With “Give em’Hell Harry there was no doubt who was in charge. He showed true compassion for those who had been opressed, but he was a tiger if his authority was challenged.
I often hope that I meet Truman in the afterlife. I would really like to know the torment of the decision to use the worlds first Nuclear Bomb.
EISENHOWER
Following his election in 1952 Dwight David Eisenhower (October 14,1890-March 28,1969) became the 34th President of The United States. He carried on with Truman’s anit-illegal immigration policy. The hero of the ETO (European Theater of Operation) was an overwhelming favorite of the public. The only question concerning his election was which political party affiliation would he choose. Growing up in conservative Abilene Kansas Ike chose the Republican Party as he thought they best reflected the values instilled in him from the time of his birth.
Eisenhower went one better than Truman on anti-illegal immigration policy. Burgoining numbers of illegal Mexican immigrants prompted Eisenhower to institute “Project Wetback” in 1954 under the auspices of The Customs and Immigration Service. He appointed longtime friends John Cox and General Joseph Swing as INS Commisioners. Eisenhower had a sense of urgency about illegal immigration upon assumption of office and communicated such in a letter to Senator William Fulbright. In the letter he quoted an article in the New York Times that stated that illegal Mexican border crossings had exploded to a sum of over 1,000,000 cases per year.
During implemtation of this program over 500,000 illegal Mexican immegrant fled voluntarily across the border for fear of being caught. Others were put on farries and taken over 500 miles south. The INS drove many illegals across the border on foot and others were herded by train. The combined efforts of Truman and Eisenhower resulted in approximately 13,000,000 illegals being deported. Ike much as his predecessor was the man in charge.
BONO
Now we come to the one person on the list who seems inconguous. What could Salvatore Phillip “Sonny” Bono ( February 15,1935- January 5, 1998) possibly have in common with the three great presidents listed above?
In 1994 during Sonny’s congressional run I personally saw a TV reporter ask him a question as he was rushing through the airport to catch a plane. The reporter asked ” Mr. Bono what is your position on illegal immigration?” Sonny logically replied,”It’s illegal.”
Kudos, Sonny gave a great reply direct, to the point, and not capable of being misunderstood.
When I first heard about Blumenthal's lies, I went to wikipedia for a bio. Wasn't I surprised to read about other times he's been accused of lies. I've seen many 'cleaned up' wikipedia sites, so why hadn't he had his cleaned? Maybe he doesn't know about the internet? Anyway, I read farther. This man's history is sleazy and just plain dirty. What can I conclude about Connecticut voters, then? They vote the ticket, not character. Let's hope they're wising up, as so many of us are.
Love the cartoon in the intro. I totally agree with your points here. LYING is LYING, I am a RABID republican, but I agree that ANYONE who lies should NOT hold office. I really enjoyed the read and your info. Thanks a bunch!!!
Very good hub I really agree with you on the "GET EDUCATED"!
