Do I Still Love My Kindle Ten Months Later?
By cjv123
I need to take a break from political discussion so I thought I could give an update about my Kindle purchase.
I have had my Kindle now for ten months and I love it even more than I loved it before. Plus, there is a brand new version coming out that’s way cheaper than I paid for my Kindle. You can pre-order your 3G/WiFi Kindle for $189.00 or the WiFi only version for $139.00 on Amazon.
I was a librarian and so I was a very reluctant Kindle buyer. However since my husband and I have increased our traveling and I tend to read more than one book at a time, I thought a Kindle purchase might be worth it.
Now I don’t know how I could possibly live without it! Amazon has a new software update that allows you to make folders which makes it a breeze to organize your books, documents or whatever else you have on your Kindle. They call it making “Collections.” These are the instructions how to create these very handy:http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_k2cont_sort?nodeId=200505560&#k2sort
This newer feature rocks my world. I know I’m such a geek wanna be—guilty. I can say other than the advent of laptop computers and the cell phone, this electronic gadget is absolutely amazing. I have an even 70 books and documents on my Kindle. I have them sorted into “Reading Now”, “Classics”, “Classics I’ve Read,” “Fiction”, “Non-Fiction”, “Reference”, “Books I’ve Read” etc.
The greatest thing about the Kindle for me is you can get another book almost instantaneously. I was reading book number one in a series. I finished it close to midnight, and right there, sitting in bed, I went to the “Kindle Store” on Amazon using my Kindle, ordered the second in the series and was reading it in less than a minute.
You can go on your PC or Mac of course and buy a Kindle book and with one click you have your book. Or if you prefer, tether your Kindle. But the option of just using your Kindle to get buy the book you know you want is just so awesome to me! That is such a cool option with Amzon’s Kindle and you pay nothing for what they call “Whispernet.”
I’m jonesing for an Apple iPad however, for just an ebook reader, something I can use in direct sunlight, and for the price it’s exactly what I need. If I want to “play games” as you can do on the Apple iPad, I’ll use my Macbook Pro. If I want to surf the internet, I’ll just get on my Mac. I use my Kindle for the very reading. That’s why I bought it and if fills that purpose perfectly!
I also love all the different reading lights and protective covers for my Kindle. It’s such fun! You could say, I’m obsessed a little (a lot?). Here I’m showing just a small portion of my collection of covers.
My suggestion is – if you love to read, get a Kindle. They are an amazing gadget. Were else can you have a dictionary, a Bible, and 68 other books and documents at your fingertips in something thin, very lightweight and about the size of a large paperback?
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated in any way with Amazon. I just happen to love, love, LOVE the Kindle!

You are so funny! Go to gelaskins.com and then click "Make your own" and it will take you step by step. You just have to upload your photo. This is my third Gelaskin for my Kindle!
I got the case on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Tuff-Luv-Leather-Amazon-Kind
Warning - its not cheap and it comes from the UK - it's $46.99! But worth every penny (to me!)
I don't have a Kindle, but I have a Nook and I am in love with it. I have been reading like a maniac and no sooner do I finish a book, I get the thrill of shopping for a new one in seconds. I love my Nook, I really do.
I've been considering buying one, and this review of yours tells me I won't be sorry. Thanks.
I really think you're going to absolutely LOVE it Sheila!
My wife got me the Nook for Xmas and I loved it, until she bought me the IPad for my birthday. That is my new vice.
I am SO jonesing for an iPad and use a Kindle app on it! Envious Dr. Chris! But I'm holding out for now - until the new ebook readers/tablets hit the market before Christmas. Then I'll make my final decision. We'll just see! Thanks for commenting!
I used to wonder what the poing of having a Kindle was but I am finding out more and more advantages to having on. Like you said, you can have your Bible and a dictionary all on one - that would be great!
I find that I often read two or more books at a time. Instead of carrying four books around, my Bible, running into the kitchen for the humongous dictionary I have there when I need to look up a word - it's all there on one slim, lightweight gadget! I LOVE IT! Now I don't know how I've lived without it! LOL Thanks for stopping by to leave your comments!
You convinced me - the folders got me! Have they always had that feature or is it relatively new?
GmaGoldie -- the folders are relatively a new software upgrade! It's awesome! Enjoy! carol
Ok, now I want a Kindle.
Great to hear Karen! I still LOVE the Kindle and now have the iPad with the Kindle app. LOVE IT!
I bid on a black leather cover on Ebay and got it for a $1.00. Then I had to pay $10 for shipping. Oh well, I don't have to worry about it as much. I also like that I can carry it in the cargo pockets of my favorite pants. It will fit in my itty bitty purse. And I never run out of reading material. If there is a series though, I just get them all at once. Then I don't even have to quit reading for a minute. I have mine organized by writer.
oh man OK I am sold dadgumit!! :)
cool article thank you!!
This is my unofficial take on the matter RNMSN - I've heard those who haven't taken the plunge yet say why they don't wish to buy an ebook reader. I have yet to hear anyone at all say, "Gee, I hate my ereader, I'm sending it back and going to stay with paper..." It just hasn't happened and I have really tried to ask many people I meet about this topic. Go for it, I do not think you're going to ever go back. Besides - it was wonderful giving away all those dusty books that took up so much room on so many bookshelves I have all over the place. The only hold out for me is my Bible - I think I will always want the feel of the pages - but that didn't stop me from buying an e-version of the Bible for my Kindle and iPad. Let me know how you like it if you do buy one!
I don't have a Kindle but I do have a Nook. Went on trip a few weeks ago with other women and when everyone went to bed I rolled over turned on my Nook and started reading without turning on a light. The Nook pages light up. I have been having problems with my eyes and can no longer read books but I can read my Nook.
It's also so much fun in the middle of the night when I'm not ready for bed I can download a new book in seconds.
I think Nook or Kindle are good for anyone. Kindles are cheaper in price then Nook.
Good Hub.
I agree moonlake - I think ANY ereader is THE BOMB! They're the BEST! At night - if I don't want to use a light with the Kindle is I use my Kindle app on my iPad - the pages light up too - OR what I think is so cool with the iPad is that you can turn the page black and have the words white and bright.
Would love an iPad maybe for Christmas.
I read a survey that said something like 90% of Kindle owners bought an iPad. I don't know what the stats are for Nook owners but I'm guessing it's similar. I had already bought my Kindle and iPad before reading that stat. I will say, having an iPad for travel is SWEET. It's what I use on the plane whether it's streaming a movie or surfing the internet - iPad is not only a great alternate ereader (there are numerous reading apps--Kobo, Kindle, Google Books etc. all with plenty of free books to download, but it makes a great game player and periodical reader. I read the print version of The Wall Street Journal but the rest of my news reading is done on my iPad. And that's just to name a very few of the things you can do with your iPad. If you're on a budget - you could wait until just before the newest iPad comes out and they'll put the rest of the iPad2's on sale at that point (what they usually do). I hope you get one - I think with the iPad you also won't be sorry!
